Lost in the Beauty of a Tea Estate: Discovering Lavender House in Sri Lanka

Location

The Lavender House is located in Pussallawa. To reach it, you’ll need to travel on a gravel road for about 1 kilometer. This road offers beautiful views of the Helboda Tea Estate

However, for the last 300 meters, the road might not be clearly marked on the map, which can be a little confusing. But don’t worry! Look for the specific point or location indicated on the map for the villa, and follow those directions. You’ll easily find The Lavender House by following the map’s guidance.

Experience

We received a warm welcome from Nayanajith when we arrived at the Lavender House, and the villa is wonderfully nestled amidst lush tea estates, as I mentioned earlier. The pool area offers a stunning view, and during our visit in October, the weather was surprisingly not too cold. Even though it rained in the evening, it added an extra layer of beauty to the property, seamlessly blending with the overall atmosphere.

Accommodation

The Lavender House offers three rooms and a suite within the main villa, and there’s a separate modern addition with a presidential suite. The property is impeccably clean and thoughtfully arranged. It features designated areas for the pool table and TV room, both of which are conveniently located. The bar area and the TV room are in close proximity, allowing guests to enjoy the beautiful view of the swimming pool area from both spaces.

In these two rooms, you’ll find comfortable and cozy couches, making it a perfect place to spend quality time. I particularly enjoyed my time in these areas.

Room Tour

During our stay, we were accommodated in the Lilac room, which was equipped with all the amenities we could have asked for, including a bathrobe and a useful basket to carry our personal items. The bathroom was notably spacious compared to the room, and it had windows that opened to a view of the garden. Inside, there were two sink basins and a comfortable bath tub, ensuring a relaxing and convenient experience.

Food

I want to share one of my most cherished food experiences in Sri Lanka. The Lavender House surprised us with a unique lava stone BBQ experience right at our table. To give you a bit more insight, they heated the stone to a scorching 450 degrees for 7 hours. Then, they provided us with a delectable assortment of meat, seafood, vegetables, rice, and noodles. We had the pleasure of grilling our dinner right at the table, which added a fun and interactive element to the meal.

The Lavender House has three areas where they serve food: a spacious restaurant located near the pool, and two additional dining spaces within the villa. The food was not only nice but also truly delicious, making it a memorable culinary experience.

Things to do / Activities

The Lavender House offers a variety of exciting excursions around the property. One memorable experience they arranged for us was breakfast at Garandiella, which turned out to be truly amazing. We were provided with a vehicle for the trip, and the journey to Garandiella was a short but stunning adventure.

As mentioned earlier, the property also features a pool for guests to enjoy, adding a fun activity to the list. Additionally, the beautiful garden provides a tranquil space for relaxation and leisure, making it a delightful place to spend some time.

Staff and Service

The staff at Lavender House is exceptionally friendly and supportive, and I must mention the outstanding service provided by Sandun and Nayanajith. They treated us with utmost kindness and went out of their way to make our stay truly memorable. Thanks to their efforts, our time at the Lavender House was nothing short of amazing.

Review

Lavender House is an ideal destination for honeymooners, families, and gatherings with friends. If you’re seeking a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, I highly recommend this place. However, do keep in mind that it’s a bit far from urban areas, so it’s a good idea to bring everything you might need from outside.

While our visit was limited to Garandiella due to the weather, there are plenty of exciting excursions you can arrange through the property in the Pussallawa and Kotmale areas.

From the pictures I’ve seen from others, I must mention that the sunset view from the pool area appears to be absolutely magical. Unfortunately, we couldn’t witness it during our stay due to continuous rain. I hope you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy that breathtaking sight.

I believe my review will be helpful for anyone considering a stay at Lavender House.
